Breastfeeding: Getting of to a Good Start
My husband and I took our 22 month old daughter Avery to have some pictures taken by Michelle Tinger of Classic Kids Photography in Newport Beach. We both know quite a bit about photography, my husband being in the business for many years. Classic Kids, however, claimed to be something very different. Instead of the now traditional digital photography, Classic Kids creates archival black & white and hand painted portraits of children and their families.
 Our experience at Avery’s 45 minute photoshoot was nothing less than wonderful. Michelle and her assistant were fantastic. They worked with Avery (who NEVER sits still) to not only get her to look at the camera and smile, but they were able to capture her unique personality on film. It was a wonderful experience – one I would recommend for anyone looking for some great shots and lasting memories to be enjoyed for generations. 
A couple weeks after the shoot, I went in to view the proofs and was totally blown away. The shots, all in black and white, were amazing: totally dramatic, absolutely beautiful, and, most importantly, totally Avery. She absolutely radiated from the print. Only a truly masterful photographer is able to get shots like Michelle did. Check out the examples of some of the shots below.

Breastfeeding: Getting of to a Good Start

Babies are born to breastfeed.
They enter our world expecting to receive the perfect food which will provide them with all they need for at least the first half-year of their lives. Hopefully, they will continue to enjoy this “liquid gold” for many months or even years to come.
However, in far too many instances misinformation gets in the way of the initiation and longevity of the breastfeeding relationship. Too many women don’t even start because they feel unprepared, even afraid. In the past, women could look to their mothers and members of the community to set an example. Today, more and more families are finding that accurate and useful breastfeeding information and assistance are hard to find.
To get the breastfeeding relationship off to a great start, make sure to have professional resources lined up, experienced in offering assistance to breastfeeding mothers. Breastfeeding is meant to be an enjoyable activity. If it is uncomfortable beyond the initial latch or even painful, you need to get help…the sooner the better. Most often the issue is as simple as correcting the babies latch or changing position when bringing the baby to the breast.
A great resource before the baby arrives is a prenatal breastfeeding class. Typical topics include: breastfeeding preparation, milk-production, position, latch, common mistakes, pumping, returning to work and more.
Once the baby has arrived, individualized, hands-on consultations in the privacy of your home allow you to learn the proper techniques in your—and your baby’s—everyday environment. Private consultations include a latch and position review, “soreness” management, discussions of milk production and how to know your baby is getting enough to eat, devising a care-plan and follow-up.
